Why do I need allergy testing?

Allergy related symptoms can vary from minor to severe, depending on your immune system response. You should consider having allergy testing if you experience:

How does allergy testing work?

Blood allergy tests involve gathering a small sample of blood from your arm. The lab processes your blood and measures allergen-specific antibodies, such as immunoglobulin E (IgE).

During a skin allergy test at Primary Care Walk - In Medical Clinic, your doctor applies droplets of allergen solutions to your skin in an organized pattern (usually to your forearm). The team gently scratches your skin to allow the allergen solutions to penetrate. If you’re allergic to any of the substances — your doctor can test for dozens at once — you develop a small bump or red spot. 

When will I get the results of my allergy testing?

It depends on your specific type of allergy testing. In most cases, the team at Primary Care Walk - In Medical Clinic gets your results in about a week or two. Your doctor will schedule you for a follow-up visit to learn about your allergies and which treatments may be right for you.

If you’re getting a skin prick allergy test though, your doctor can analyze your results on the spot. You learn right away which allergens you need to avoid — anything from food to environmental to pest allergens — so you can lower your risk of future allergy attacks.
